Q: What kind of computer / operating system do I need to use 1Prompter™ teleprompter software?

A: Any Pentium II-based laptop / notebook computer that runs Windows 98SE will run 1Prompt™. Windows 98 has problems with USB, and we can't guarantee dual-screen capability, but it will certainly run in single-screen mode. Download a demo of our teleprompter software here and see how well it runs on your target machine. Windows NT cannot be used because it does not support USB, and WinME should not be used due to it's instability. Dual-screen operation requires Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista.

A desktop computer running Windows 2000 / XP / Vista requires a two-head video board to use the dual-screen capability of 1Prompt™ teleprompter software. This is an option at $150, and includes a DVI to SVGA adapter.

Q: My preferred platform is Mac, will 1Prompt™ teleprompter software work for me?

A: Intel processor-based Mac computers will have no problems running 1Prompt™. On the latest Mac desktop machines, with two video cards, you can even do dual-screen prompting. This is especially good for buyers of 1Prompter15™ and 1Prompter17™, which rely on the capability of the teleprompter software to mirror the teleprompter while keeping the operator's monitor heads-up under dual-screen mode.

1Prompter11™ is PERFECT for Mac users even if their computer isn't Intel-based, since 1Prompter11™ has the capability to mirror in the monitor, and doesn't rely on the software to mirror the prompter. 1Prompter11™ also accepts PAL or NTSC composite video.

We can supply ScriptQ Mac software with your 1Prompter11™ purchase instead of 1Prompt™ Win at no additional charge.
Q: What is the warranty policy on your portable teleprompter systems?

A: Our warranty on all AVD/1Prompter™ manufactured hardware is 3 years. This warranty does not cover glass. Monitors carry the full manufacturer's warranty, typically 1 to 3 years. See the monitor manufacturer's warranty for full details.

Our included 1Prompt™ Win/Mac-Intel teleprompter software is licensed to run on 1 computer only, and may not be loaded on additional computers without paying an additional $100 fee. Another option is to purchase the 1PromptPro™ upgrade on USB flash drive key, which not only provides a software upgrade and a USB wired controller, but also allows easy movement between PC's for only $250 (at time of purchase, regularly $495).
Q: What is the return policy of your low cost teleprompter systems?

A: We have a 30 day return policy, with a restocking fee of 25% to 50%, depending on how long the equipment is in your possession, and the condition in which it is the teleprompters are returned. If the software is registered, none of the system is returnable.

In 15 years, with thousands of portable teleprompter systems sold, we have had only two returns!
Q: Can you explain to me how to configure my computer to run 1Prompter™?

A: Download the 1Prompt™ software manual in .PDF format from the Downloads page. This manual details how to set up both your computer and the software so that you're prompting like a pro in no time!
Q: What's up with one of your competitors offering an acrylic plastic mirror as an "upgrade"?

A: We can't figure out why a company would brag about having the BEST glass hi-def mirrors, better than anyone else's glass teleprompter mirrors (a misrepresentation, since all 1Prompters™ have low-iron hi-def glass), but then upsell acrylic plastic as an "upgrade" for $75 additional.

For the record: 1) Acrylic plastic scratches very easily. 2) Acrylic plastic has an inconsistent coating. 3) Acrylic plastic costs about HALF as much as hi-def glass. 4) Acrylic plastic is, indeed BREAKABLE. Okay, glass, because it is inherently harder, is more easily broken than acrylic plastic, but it's the ONLY medium you want to shoot through.

And as far as our competitor claiming to have "developed" the low-iron hi-def glass for teleprompters, we respond: HORSEFEATHERS. That glass has been on the market for longer than they've been in business.
Q: Does a "patent pending" plastic Fresnel magnifier really make a 7.2" LCD appear to be a 9"?

A: We don't think so--and how someone can call this "patent pending" is questionable. Fresnel lenses were invented in the early 1800's by a Frenchman named Fresnel. They've been used in lighthouse lenses and cinema lighting fixtures, also in enlarging video monitor images since the 1960's, and more recently in rear projection televisions.

Don't buy into this nonsense--it's all hype and deception.
Q: What's the story with this Low-Iron Hi-Def beamsplitter glass? Is it really so much better in teleprompters? And also, what's this "highbright" teleprompter glass one of your competitors is upselling?

A: 1Prompters™ have used low-iron hi-def glass for quite some time now. Low-iron glass simply has fewer impurities than standard glass, and appears to be a lighter color on the edge. In reality, this glass lets through less than 10% more light, and thus can be called "clearer".

However, any claim of 1Prompter™ competitor having "developed" this glass is pure bunkum-this glass has been available longer than they've been in business.

Standard teleprompter glass is typically 60 / 40 configuration: 60% transmission through the glass, 40%reflectance from the mirrored surface. So-called "highbright" glass is simply 50/50 glass. This allows for a slightly brighter mirrored surface, from 40% to 50% reflectance.

Does that slightly brighter image let you shoot outdoors? Absolutely NOT!

The only way to shoot in high ambient light situations with a teleprompter is to use a highbright monitor of 1,000 cd/m2 or more.

Go to www.avd-prompt.com to see 1,000 cd/m2 12" and 1,800 cd/m2 15" custom built prompter systems.
Q: Why do your competitors say running in 50% operator monitor's size for their software is an advantage?

A: We don't get that either.

Running at half size (actually ONE QUARTER size) is an advantage? NOT TRUE.

They want you to 1) Set your resolution to 800x600 and then 2) Cut your operator monitor down to ONE QUARTER size?

This seems like a DISadvantage as compared to 1Prompt™, which allows different sized prompter monitor and operator monitor resolutions and allows silky-smooth scrolling at 100% size for the operator monitor, even at 1024x768 resolution. No need to decrease the operator monitor to 25% size!
Q: Wow, they've got an impressive prompter user list.....

A: 1Prompter™ and its parent company, Audio Video Design Inc. (AVD) have NEVER been so tacky as to publish their end-user list, even after 15 years in the teleprompter business.

Our reputation of having sold thousands of teleprompters over the last 15 years with only 2 returns EVER speaks for itself.
